Nile River Cruises

Relax and enjoy the wonderful experience of an Egyptian holidays Nile cruise

If it is a peaceful relaxing holiday you are looking for, one that takes you away from all the stresses of work and daily living, then an Egyptian holiday Nile cruise is the ideal way to both relax and enjoy the beautiful experience of all the history and culture Egypt has to offer.

Egypt has many cruises available, to experience all the wonders the River Nile has to offer, you can choose to either take a cruise on one of the luxury cruise liners or try the unique experience of the Felucca, a wind powered wooden boat with canvas sails. The Felucca is for the more adventurous, outdoors type of tourist, not looking for the comforts of the cruise ships.

The Nile cruises will usually start at Luxor, also known as the open air museum, due to the wealth of culture and heritage that can be experienced there. While sailing south from Luxor, the Karnak temple can be found on the East bank of the Nile. While further down the river, on the West bank is the Valley of the Kings, this is where it is believed that the tomb and treasure of Tutenkhamun were found.

As you sail down the River Nile, there is an abundance of ancient architecture to experience on both banks of the Nile. As you travel South you will pass the Egyptian city of Edfu, where the Temple of Horus, the falcon headed god is, this temple is said to be Egypts best preserved temple. On the West bank you will find the small agricultural town of Kom Ombo, where you will find the Temple of Kom Ombo dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek, which stands on a dune overlooking the Nile, mummified crocodiles can be seen at the temple, the temple dates back to Ptolemies times.

On the East bank of the River Nile you will find the city of Aswan, renowned for its beautiful scenery, you will be able to explore the wonderful Botanic gardens and Mango Island as well as visit the Philae Temple to enjoy the exciting sound and light show. Whilst in Aswan you should try to visit the impressive Abu Simbel temples, these are massive twin temples that are carved out of rock, these temples were originally carved out of the mountainside but had to be relocated when the Aswan dam was built to prevent them being submerged by the artificial reservoir that formed around them.
