The best way to see the longest river in the world as well as soak up all the culture and history Egypt has to offer is to relax on a Luxor Nile Cruise tour. On both banks of the River Nile there is plenty to experience.
While you are sailing down the Nile you may even see the Felucca as it sails along the River. The Felucca is a boat that is powered by the wind, it is a wooden boat with canvas sails.
Most of the larger, more modern cruise ships set out from the City of Luxor, also known as the open air museum, as it has a great many stunning ancient monuments including the Luxor Temple and the Mummification museum where visitors can learn about the history of mummification.
While sailing south down the River Nile, on the East bank is where the Karnak temple complex can be found. The complex is a collection of ruined temples and other buildings. During the eighteenth Dynasty, Karnak was the main place of worship.
On the West bank of the Nile is the Valley of the Kings, it is said that there are 63 tombs there. During the Eighteenth and Twentieth Dynasties of Egypt the Valley of the Kings was the main burial place for members of Egypts Royalty.
As you continue south, you will see the best preserved and second largest temple in Egypt, the Temple of Horus, this temple was dedicated to Horus, the falcon headed god. The temple is said to be built on the site of a battle between Horus and Seth. Seth was the god of the desert who killed Horus’s father.
Built on a dune, overlooking the Nile on the West bank of the river, is the Temple of Kom Ombo, this temple was built in dedication to the crocodile god of Sobek, when you visit this temple you can view the mummified crocodiles at the site.
The beautiful City of Aswan can be seen on the East bank of the river, the city has stunning scenery. Aswan is home to the Botanic gardens and at the wonderful Philae temple you will be able to experience the fantastic sound and light show. The Abu Simbel twin temples in Aswan are well worth a visit, these temples were originally cut into the mountains, but had to be relocated when the Aswan dam was built and a reservoir began to form around them.
